Back Roads is Queenstown Fishing’s private multi-day fly-fishing experience, built around the remote valleys, quiet waterways and lesser-travelled roads of the South Island. It gives you the time to explore properly, follow the conditions and fish more than one piece of water without racing the clock.
Each journey is individually planned. Rather than forcing every group into the same itinerary, we build the route around the season, river levels, weather, angler experience and the kind of adventure you are looking for.

The Experience
Travel by 4WD into backcountry fishing areas, walk and wade carefully selected water, then stay overnight close to the country you have come to explore. The next morning, continue deeper into the region or move to another river as conditions dictate.
Back Roads is as much about the journey as the fishing: early starts, empty roads, changing landscapes, local knowledge and the freedom to spend time where the water looks right.
Who Is It For?
Back Roads is for anglers who want to slow the trip down and go beyond the obvious water. It suits experienced fly fishers looking for variety, but it can also be tailored for guests who want to learn over several days with the same guide.
Important to Know
Backcountry fishing is shaped by season, river levels, weather and access. Final routes may change before or during the trip, and some walking over uneven ground may be required. Accommodation, meals, transport, equipment and licence requirements will be confirmed as part of each final itinerary.
